What is a Craft Guild?

The Craft Guild of Iowa City is a nonprofit organization promoting interest in traditional crafts and providing opportunity for creative development.

Guild activities and classes are limited to Guild members only. Our dues and fees are for the operation of our Guild House and grounds, class supplies and equipment maintenance. Our nonprofit status prohibits the use of Guild facilities for personal profit.

There is no provision for Guild membership if one is primarily seeking studio workspace.

We have a house!

The Craft Guild owns the house at 815 Oakland Avenue, Iowa City , which provides members with:
  • Meeting rooms
  • Individual use (non-meeting time)
  • Workshop space
  • Storage for Guild equipment: looms, pottery & spinning wheels, and kilns, etc.
  • Access to our excellent lending library

The house and grounds are maintained by members.

Annual dues are $70.00, September to September. Benefits include:

  • Joining up to three interest groups
  • Full use of facilities
  • Bimonthly newsletter
  • Borrowing some equipment
  • Use of lending library

Who are our members?

Adults over the age of 18 who desire to learn basic and/or advanced craft skills in an informational and supportive atmosphere or those who are already recreational crafters and wish the continued support and enthusiasm generated by meetings, projects, and interaction with fellow members.

All members are expected to share in Guild responsibilities which benefits the Guild as a whole, such as holding a Guild or group office, committee work, house cleaning, yard mowing, and participating in the many wonderful projects and events we have throughout the year. The donation of a few hours a month is far outweighed by the benefits received.

It is in this spirit that we welcome new members.
